Two arrested following fatal assault in Tralee

Gardaí investigating the death of a man in Tralee yesterday evening (Sunday) have arrested a second person.

The man, aged in his 50s, died at an apartment in the Denny Lane/Street area between 6.30pm and 7pm. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are particularly appealing to those who were in the vicinity of Abbey Court to come forward.

Shortly after 7pm, Gardaí and Emergency Services attended at an apartment in the Abbey Court apartment complex Tralee where the man was discovered with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

As a result of investigations, a man in his early 30s has been arrested and is currently detained at Killarney Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A man in his 50s has since been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tralee Garda Station.

The local Coroner has been notified and the services of the State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been requested by investigating Gardaí.

The body of the deceased remains at the scene which is currently preserved. A technical examination of the scene and post-mortem examination will be conducted this morning (Monday).

An incident room has been established at Tralee Garda Station and initial case conference has been held by investigators.

Killarney Racegoers Club will host its annual Cheltenham Preview Night in Corkery’s Bar on March 7.

Admission is free and this year’s chosen beneficiary is the Killarney Branch of St Vincent De Paul Society.
The expert panel includes professional punter Paddy Wilmott, leading jockey Conor McNamara, up-and-coming Kerry-based trainer Eoin McCarthy and local bookmaker Brendan Tyther with Vince Casey acting as the event’s compere.

“There is no admission fee but a raffle on the night for dual membership of Killarney Racegoers Club for the year, which includes 13 days racing and many reciprocal days to other race meetings,” said Mr Casey.

The Cheltenham Festival begins on March 12.
