Traffic management at St Oliver’s School

A new traffic management plan to alleviate congestion at St Oliver’s School in Ballycasheen will go ahead.
There have been numerous calls by elected members of Killarney Municipal District to do something to solve the chronic traffic problems at the school during pick-up and drop-off times.
Recently retired councillor Donal Grady first highlighted the issue in 2022.
His replacement in the council chamber, his son Martin, and Niall Kelleher raised the issue again at the most-recent Killarney Municipal District meeting.
An council official said: “2022 the Killarney MD Office had extensive pre-planning discussions with representatives of St. Oliver's School in relation to traffic generated by the school. In March 2023, St. Oliver's National School received planning approval for the construction of new boundary treatment to the Rookery Road, incorporating a one-way vehicular set down provision, revised pedestrian facilities and the relocation of parking facilities. It is expected that once completed, this design will allow for improved traffic flow and will alleviate congestion, while maximising the safety of the vulnerable road user.”
