DANCERS swung into action in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMDA) in a charity céilí that generated an impressive €600.
The event was hosted at An Riocht, Castleisland, by TJ Nelligan in September with the help of Liz Kelleher of Kilgarvan whose brother died of Motor Neurone Disease.
Elizabeth and Peggy Kelleher presented the proceeds to Christy Lehane, Killarney, of the Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone Disease and the IMDA in the Heights Hotel Killarney.
Paying tribute to TJ, the dancers and all who supported the event, Elizabeth said: “There are no words to express how much it meant to see everybody there and we hope they all enjoyed the day and a huge thank you to everybody that helped out, including those that helped with the tea and made sure everyone got fed.
“Most of all, a huge thank you to Ui Bhriain, John and Martina, who played exceptional music and created a fantastic atmosphere.”
Christy Lehane said the funds will help provide specialist equipment and access to a motor neurone disease nurse. “This plays vital role in improving quality of life enabling people to live as active independent citizens within their community and to remain at home with their families for as long as possible,” said Christy.
There are currently over 360 people living with MND in Ireland 12 of which are from Kerry.
