The Killarney Historic Rally was officially launched on Saturday afternoon at the Killarney Plaza & Spa.

The event, which is set to take place on November 29 and 30, promises to be bigger and better than ever.

"We're excited to welcome competitors from all over the world to Killarney," said Anthony O’Connor, Clerk of the Course. "The popularity of this event continues to grow, and we expect a strong field of entries."

The Killarney Towers Hotel returns as the main sponsor, while the KC Print continues its long-standing support of the event. Other key sponsors include Aherns Motor Group, Castrol, Traynor’s, and Keans Centra.
This year's rally will feature eight stages, including the iconic Molls Gap, Beallaghbeama, Caragh Lake, and Kilcummin. These stages will be run in both daylight and darkness, offering a thrilling challenge for competitors and spectators alike.
“Saturday morning starts with fast-flowing and iconic Molls Gap followed by Ballaughbeama and the classic Carragh Lake stage, then goes into service at Liebherr Container cranes Killarney. This Loop is repeated and into service again, before heading out to take on Kilcummin in daylight, we head to a holding area in Farranfore before heading out to complete the final stage of Kilcummin in darkness,” explained O’Connor who also announced plans for a motorsport festival on the streets of Killarney town. The two-day event will begin with a ceremonial start on Friday evening, November 29th.
The top three crews from each class will arrive back in Killarney for the finish ramp at 7 pm outside the Killarney Plaza Hotel and Spa.
Gemma Ring, managing director of the O’Donoghue Ring Collection of Hotels said:
“I would like to thank all the Killarney and District Motor Club organisers for their hard work and dedication to bringing this event to Killarney.
“The rally showcases Killarney and picturesque surrounds to all who attend,
“With the festive season just around the corner, the rally followers create a great atmosphere around the town over the weekend.”
The town centre ceremonial starts on Friday (November 29) evening and will be the first opportunity for fans to engage with double World Rally Champion Kalle Rovanperä.
The Flying Finn is on his first visit to Kerry and will drive Jason Black’s Toyota Starlet in the modified category.
All eyes will be on defending Modified Rally champion Rob Duggan. Will it be the local hero or the World Champion who will come out on top in that battle?

Historic Rally

But this rally is all about the Historic element and close to 80 genuine historic rally cars are set to take to the start line on Saturday morning.
This is a record for the rally and another step closer to Killarney and District Motor Club’s ambitions of hosting a full field of historic rally cars.
Leading the field away will be defending champion Jonny Greer in his Ford Sierra Cosworth.
He will be aiming for three in a row. Is there anyone out there able to stop his bid for three in a row?
His rivals include local driver Alan Ring who will compete in his Subaru Legacy and he would dearly love to win the rally that his family business is sponsoring. Other contenders include former winners like Mark Falvey and Dennis Moynihan their Ford Escort Mk1S and recently crowned Irish Tarmac Historic Rally Champion Neil Williams in his Ford Escort Mark2.
There is a fleet of BMW M3 E 30s in the rally which is going to make a spectacular sight on the classic stages around Carragh Lake and Moll’s Gap.
These will be driven by Donagh Kelly who just pipped his fellow county man John O'Donnell in the recent Kerry Winter Rally for historic rally honours.
Donagh’s son Eamonn has put a late deal together to run a BMW as opposed to the advertised Ford Escort Mk2.
Other examples will be driven by local man Paul Ahern who is also one of the associate sponsors of the rally.
Michael Cullen returns in his example and a Kerry man Fergus O’Meara will debut his newly acquired E30.
O’Meara will be co-driven by current Irish Tarmac Rally Champion co-driver Mikie Galvin.
Other interesting include World Rally Championship co-driver Liam Regan who takes to the steering wheel for his annual visit to Killarney in his Skoda Estelle 130.
Atlanta-based Donegal man Seamus Burke returns in his BDA-powered Ford Escort and Joe White flies in from San Fransisco to drive an Austin Mini.

Neighbours and friends from the Lissivigeen and District Community Alert area enjoyed a memorable day out in West Kerry recently, with a full coach travelling to Dingle for their annual outing.

The group set off on the morning of September 4, with organiser Christy Lehane describing it as “a great day that everyone had been eagerly waiting for.” The destination had been chosen months earlier, and the trip attracted many of the same regular travellers who had taken part in last year’s outing to Ballymaloe House.
“The skies looked dark when we boarded the bus,” said Mr Lehane, “but as soon as Inch Strand came into view, we knew the weather was on our side.”
The journey included a running commentary from former councillor Michael Gleeson, who acted as guide until the group reached Dingle, where they met local historian Tadhg Ó Coileáin. After a coffee stop in town, the first visit was to Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry, where the sunshine gave everyone the perfect chance to take photos beside the statue of the late football legend.
“Some people went inside to see the photos of all the famous visitors who called there over the years,” said Mr Lehane. “No one was in a rush, everyone just relaxed and soaked in the atmosphere.”
From there, the bus travelled on along the Slea Head Drive, where the group took in spectacular coastal views and listened to Tadhg’s stories about the history and folklore of the area. A visit to the Blasket Island Centre followed, where the group watched a documentary about the lives of the islanders.
Lunch was served at Ceann Sibéal Golf Club, where the group enjoyed a four-course meal. “The food and the service were first class,” Mr Lehane said. “Everyone agreed it was a great choice for our main stop.”
He added that the highlight of the day was their guide, Tadhg Ó Coileáin, whose deep knowledge and passion for the area made the trip truly special. “Tadhg filled our heads with stories of local history, the films shot around Dingle, and of course, the footballing legends from West Kerry,” he said.
On the way home, the group was treated to songs, stories, and accordion tunes from Paddy Hughes, rounding off what Mr Lehane described as “a most enjoyable and memorable day out for everyone involved.”

Emerging local actress Kyla Shine- Leane recently took part in an masterclass at West End House School of Arts, where participants were led by local Hollywood star Michael Fassbender.

Fassbender, who founded the Killarney-based acting school, returned home to share his wealth of experience from years on stage and screen, offering students an invaluable opportunity to learn from one of the film industry’s finest.

For Kyla, the experience proved both transformative and inspiring.

“Participating in a masterclass with Michael was truly a transformative and unforgettable experience,” Kyla said. “His approach to emotional truth and character analysis challenged me to look deeper through technique and connect with my deep instincts.

“There was a constant emphasis on presence and vulnerability which allowed us to reach deeper and actively listen to one another as he brought an honesty and intensity to each and every performance.

Kyla left the masterclass feeling more confident in her acting skills. She said: “As an actor, the most valuable lesson learned was watching his process — it was both humbling and inspiring, watching him push everyone in the room to their highest potential. I felt more confident to take risks, embrace my authenticity, and trust my instincts, not only in the craft but in life.”

Everyone at West End House is so grateful to have had this experience and, as always, it was an absolute pleasure to work with Michael.”
