Sections of Old Kenmare Road walking route closed due to bridge collapse
The Old Kenmare Road walking route through Killarney National Park will remain closed until at least the end of September after the bridge at Cores Cascade was washed away by recent heavy rainfalls.
While it is still possible to walk from the upper Torc carpark to the point where Cores Cascade crosses the Crinnagh River it is not possible to continue as far as Derrycunnighy Church or to Kenmare.
“We are working on replacing the bridge unfortunately just repairing is not an option. It is difficult to estimate the length of time it will take, ideally we would have the work completed by the end of next month,” a National Parks and Wildlife Services spokesperson told the Killarney Advertiser. “You can walk from the upper car park at Torc and walk up Torc mountain, you can also walk to the river and return - roughly 8km. You are not able to walk from Killarney to Derrycunnihy Church or to Kenmare. It is not possible to go from Derrycunnihy back to Killarney via the Old Kenmare Road.”
