THE pupils at Fossa National School were keen to learn all about best practice in recycling when they launched KWD Recycling’s “Recycle Right” campaign.

The team from KWD Recycling led a fun-filled workshop which proved to be a big hit with students.
Recycle Right is an exciting new project and educational video aimed at primary schools.

It follows on from the success of the “KWD Kids Recycling” programme in 2010. “This new drive is for third and fourth class primary school students in particular as it is in line with the school’s current curriculum strand, A Sense of Place – Strand Environmental Awareness,” said Noel O’Reilly of KWD Recycling. “Their aim is to enable students and teachers to understand the role of recycling and how to dispose of their waste and recycling correctly and responsibly.”

The KWD “Recycle Right” pack includes an 18-page booklet which contains fun facts and quizzes. “It is important to teach people about the latest recycling practices and where better to start than with the younger generation,” said Noel.

“There is no other initiative by any other company or government body like this anywhere in Ireland and KWD Recycling want to change that trend, and in turn educate the children of today for a better tomorrow.”
KWD Recycling is also running a competition to build your own Kenny the KWD truck where the winning school will win an iPad and a field trip to the new state of the art recycling facility. You will find all the instructions on how to build Kenny the truck plus access to many more games and quizzes online at www.kwdkids.com

The long-awaited Beaufort Wastewater Scheme has taken a significant step forward following the Government’s decision to increaseproject funding to €7 million.

The uplift forms part of an additional €14.3 million announced under Measure A8 of the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme, supporting seven rural wastewater projects nationwide.
Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill welcomed the increase, saying the funding is “most welcome and long overdue,” but added that the project now needs to move ahead without further delay.
Minister Michael Healy-Rae also acknowledged the progress, stating, “This is a hugely important step forward for Beaufort,” and said he will continue pushing for delivery.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said the upgrade is essential for the village, noting, “Beaufort has waited long enough.”
The enhanced funding allows the scheme to proceed to the next stage, with all parties calling for construction to begin as soon as possible.

Three families taking centre stage with Killarney Musical Society

Killarney Musical Society’s upcoming production of ‘All Shook Up’ will feature multiple generations of three different families performing side by side.

The show will run from February 10 to 12 in the Gleneagle Arena. Tickets for the highly anticipated show are on sale now.
Music is well known to bring people of all ages together, and this is clearly evident within the Killarney Musical Society, where several families are sharing the stage this year.
The Spillane/Murray family boasts three generations in the production. Phil Spillane has been an active member since she joined KMS in September 1989.
This year, she performs alongside her daughter Amanda and her granddaughter Caoimhe, who is playing the character Lorraine. All three agree they are having great fun practising dance steps and harmonies together and will treasure this time forever.
Mother and daughter Annie and Alannah McIlroy are taking the stage together for the first time. Annie appeared in the 2023 production of Michael Collins, while Alannah joined the cast last year for Evita. They state that the best part of performing together is the quality time they share, not just during rehearsals but on the journeys to and from them, as both share a deep love for musicals.
Finally, the mother and daughter pair of Linda and Eilise O’Donoghue continue a family tradition. While Linda’s father was involved with KMS back in 1986, Linda herself joined in 2015 after being persuaded by her daughter Eilise, who has been a member since 2012. Before each performance, the two rely on each other: Eilise checks Linda’s hair and makeup, while Linda makes sure Eilise’s costume is perfect. They also enjoy practising their alto lines together, making the experience especially meaningful.
The society looks forward to welcoming audiences to the Gleneagle Arena for the three-night run of ‘All Shook Up’ next February.
