Residents in Kilcummin say it is a matter of “seeing is believing” after Irish Water issued them with an invitation to a public meeting to discuss a new sewage scheme for the village.
The public meeting is planned to take place next Wednesday (April 3) in the Kilcummin GAA club house, from 5.30pm – 7pm.
The €3 million project will involve the construction of a new pumping station and the additional infrastructure needed to connect Kilcummin to the Killarney town wastewater network to facilitate treatment at the town plant.
Kilcummin Rural Development supervisor John Moriarty says the condition of local roads are an issue too, with road improvements continuously delayed as the roads would be dug up again to facilitate the sewage scheme works.
“We have been living on this promise for a number of years,” John said. “We won’t believe until we see it. People are complaining about the roads for so long now we are tired of it. If you mention the sewage scheme around here people will laugh at you.”
