Park & Ride option to ease festive traffic
At this week’s meeting of Killarney Municipal District, Cllr Marie Moloney proposed the introduction of a Park & Ride service during the busy Christmas season to alleviate traffic congestion in the town.
The proposal stems from the increasing popularity of festive events like the Christmas parades, the Killarney on Ice skating rink, and the recently introduced Christmas Markets.
While these events attract visitors and boost local businesses, they also contribute to increased traffic and parking challenges within the town.
Cllr Moloney expressed concern that the reduction in parking spaces due to these events might deter some shoppers from visiting Killarney.
In response, a council official acknowledged the growing popularity of these festive events and their positive impact on Killarney.
They also confirmed that the council continually assesses parking availability in the town, both on-street and in off-street car parks. The possibility of implementing a Park & Ride service is under active consideration as one potential solution to address the seasonal parking demands.
