St. Mary’s Cathedral administrator, Fr. Kieran O’Brien, has announced that a parish mission will take place this September, the first in Killarney in 12 years.

The mission will run from Sunday, September 21st to Friday, September 26th and will be led by the Redemptorist team, headed by Fr. Laurence Gallagher. It will include Masses, prayer sessions, and events aimed at bringing the community together.

“An idea was put forward at a parish council meeting, that we as the Killarney community, should undertake a Redemptorist Mission. The council unanimously ran with this idea and have been busy putting plans in place to host this big event.” said Fr. O’ Brien “It is time for us to come together as a Killarney people, to pray, to reflect, to unite and to take time out to revive our own spiritual journeys.”
All local schools will be involved, with pupils taking part in Masses and helping as ushers at evening services. Preparations have already begun, including artwork by primary school students.

Masses will take place at 7am and 10am in the Cathedral, 9.30am in the Church of the Resurrection, and 7pm evening sessions in the Cathedral. A full schedule will be delivered to homes and shared on the parish Facebook page in the coming weeks.
The closing night will focus on the theme Celebrating Community, with local groups invited to take part. Sports clubs, charities, schools, music groups, and volunteer organisations are all encouraged to contact killarney@dioceseofkerry.ie by Tuesday, August 19th to be included.
Fr. O’Brien said the event is an opportunity for Killarney to unite in prayer and community spirit.
