Order of Malta assists nursing unit transfer
Volunteers from the Killarney branch of the Order of Malta assisted with the transfer of residents from the District Hospital and St Columbanus Home to the new Killarney Community Nursing Unit on Lewis Road this week.
Order of Malta volunteers joined forces with the Irish Red Cross and the National Ambulance Service under the direction of the Cork/Kerry regional ambulance coordinator to manage the patient moves.
Long-serving Order of Malta volunteer Michael 'Bunny' Fleming paid tribute to the healthcare teams involved in relocating the residents to the modern Lewis Road facility.
"I had the pleasure of transferring the residents of both St Columbanus Home and District Hospital to the new Killarney Community Nursing Unit," Fleming said. "I would like to commend the nursing staff, care assistants, and catering staff for their compassion, respect, and care in the smooth transfer of all the residents."
Fleming highlighted the teamwork shown across the various voluntary and emergency services throughout the operation.
"I saw at first hand the dedication and loving care shown to each resident," he added. "The staff, both male and female, are true heroes and deserve our acknowledgement and appreciation. Together with my colleagues from the Killarney Order of Malta, we were happy to assist."
