Olympians honoured at Team Ireland Centenary Ball
Four athletes from Killarney who proudly represented Ireland at the Olympic Games in the 2000s were honoured last Saturday night at the Team Ireland Centenary Olympic Ball.
The glamorous event, held at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin, brought together past and present Olympians to celebrate 100 years of Irish Olympic history.
The four Killarney Olympians in attendance were Sean Casey, who competed in rowing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics; Gillian O'Sullivan, a race walker who represented Ireland at Sydney 2000; Paul Griffin, a rower who took part in both Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008; and Cathal Moynihan, also a rower at Beijing 2008. Each athlete shared memories of their Olympic experiences and celebrated Ireland’s legacy on the international stage.
Adding to the evening's charm, Killarney's own Liam O’Connor and his talented family delivered a standout musical performance.
The Team Ireland Centenary Olympic Ball, the largest gathering of Irish Olympians to date, paid tribute to the achievements of Ireland’s athletes, both past and present.
