Nurses “once again left down by Government” – says Kerry TD
Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae has this week hit out at the Government over pay for student nurses. He said that the Government operates on one hand by blocking a small payment to student nurses last week and then this week have provided €12m a year as an additional payment to former Taoisigh and Ministers.
"This latest pre-Christmas giveaway comes with increased annual payments of €32,000 annually to three super junior minsters on top of their salary, in addition approval has been given for additional payments totalling around €55,000 per annum to the whips of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Sinn Fein, Greens, Social Democrats, Labour and Solidarity," he said.
"The Government has been telling the people to applaud and appreciate the nurses and frontline staff, while of course I agree that we need to do this particularly this year as nurses and frontline staff have been endangering their lives and the lives of their families due to COVID, what the nurses really need is to be adequately paid and treated fairly."
