No set completion date for Killarney’s new cinema

Killarney film buffs will have to wait another while before enjoying a trip to the movies.
Omniplex Cinemas has confirmed to the Killarney Advertiser that it cannot put a date on the opening of the new cinema on Park Road.
Construction on the new cinema was suspended in March due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The shell is now complete and internal fit out contracts have been signed.
However, operator Omniplex Cinemas says its priority is getting its existing nationwide chain of cinemas reopened.
Its Tralee branch open in late June.
“Work will recommence shortly,” Mark Anderson of Omniplex told the Killarney Advertiser. “Our immediate focus is on reopening existing cinemas nationwide in line with Government guidance as well as in-cinema seat separation, enhanced cleaning regimes, Perspex screens at our concessions stands and self-scanning of tickets.”
Meanwhile the existing theatre on East Avenue remains closed with no reopening date yet announced.
