No CCTV system for Killarney… for now
P
Proposals for a new CCTV scheme in Killarney have been shelved due to concerns raised with the Data Protection Commissioner regarding access to the material recorded. Cameras were to be put in place in the town centre as well in Ballyspillane but it’s understood that there will be no progress on the matter until this data issue is resolved.
A complaint from a County Meath group about the day-to-day operators of the CCTV and controls placed upon them has forced the government to step in and suspend all proposed schemes nationwide. The complaint is expected to be dealt with by the third quarter of this year, after which point the future of Killarney’s CCTV system will be reviewed.
