New play therapy room from €3k donation
By Michelle Crean
With over €3k raised, a Kerry counselling centre was able to build a much needed new play therapy room for younger clients.
Muckross Garden Restaurant held a Christmas Collection in December which raised €1,776.
Then the Trustees of Muckross House matched the amount bringing it up to a generous €3,600 donated towards the important cause.
The funds donated means that Southwest Counselling Centre were able to build the new play therapy room for children attending their service.
"We are very fortunate to have generous customers who help us fundraise each year for our Christmas campaign for local charities and this year we are delighted to be able to support Southwest Counselling after a hard two years for many people," Restaurant Manager Colin Baker, who thanked everyone who donated, said.
Jimmy Mulligan, CEO SouthWest Counselling added that the benefits of this new play therapy room is based upon the fact that "play is the child’s natural medium of self-expression".
"It is an opportunity which is given to the child to “play out” her/his feelings and problems just as, in certain types of adult therapy, an individual “talks out” their difficulties."
