New Killarney councillor set for co-option

Martin Grady looks likely to be co-opted onto Kerry County Council on Monday
Martin is due to replace his retiring father Donal in the Killarney Municipal District.
Donal attended his last municipal district meeting last week but council rules say that new members can only be co-opted during the order of business of a full meeting.
The next full meeting is scheduled for Monday and the co-option is expected to be a formality.
Martin, a fireman with Killarney Fire and Rescue will be second new member of the Killarney Municipal District during its current term.
In June 2021 Kerry Independent Alliance councillor John O’Donoghue took up his seat on the council following the retirement of his uncle and former councillor Michael Gleeson on Kerry County Council.
The next local election is set to take place next May and the final year will give Martin time to find his feet and prepare for the ballot.
