National Park launches new Junior Ranger+ Programme
Killarney National Park Education Centre officially launched its new Junior Ranger+ programme for young people aged 14 to 17 last Saturday, August 16.
The inaugural event took place at Muckross School House, marking the start of a monthly series of advanced conservation activities for teenagers.
This new initiative, part of National Heritage Week's free events, is designed to build on skills learned in previous Junior Ranger camps.
Participants will engage in hands-on conservation work, including ecological surveys, map-reading, navigation, hiking, and boat trips. The programme also involves practical efforts such as invasive species management and trail maintenance.
Each session will run from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm at Muckross School House. The programme offers teens a chance to explore various parts of the National Park, deepen their understanding of habitat protection, and connect with peers who share an interest in nature.
Future dates for the Junior Ranger+ Programme are September 13, October 11, November 8, and December 13. Spaces are limited, and interested participants are advised to book early by emailing fieldstudiesandnaturecamps@gmail.com.
