Some of Killarney’s most beautiful locations including Ladies View feature heavily in a brand new music video released this week - and it’s sure to be a hit with fans.

Local two-piece alternative rock band ‘Greywind’ - who are supporting Irish superstars The Coronas at the INEC this December - posted their new video ‘Desolate’, which was filmed completely in Kerry and at iconic Killarney locations, on YouTube on Wednesday.

The band is made up of siblings Steph and Paul O’Sullivan from Rock Road, and the four minute video is taken from their debut album ‘Afterthoughts’.

"Since starting this band we've been able to reach fans from all over the world so for this music video for ‘Desolate’ we wanted it to be a personal video showing where we grew up," Paul, son of Paul O’Sullivan and well-known classically trained soprano Mary Culloty O’Sullivan, told the Killarney Advertiser this week.

"Our previous music videos were filmed in Los Angeles and the UK so it was great to finally film a music video in our hometown.”

Earlier this year they made their debut at the legendary Isle of Wight Festival alongside Fat Boy Slim, Rick Astley and KT Tunstall in front of 70,000 people.

They had also promised local fans that they would play their first home-town gig in Killarney before the end of the year and will now play as a warm up act before The Coronas take to the stage on December 29.

“We're excited to release this video ahead of our Dublin headline show on December 12 in Whelans and our debut hometown show at the INEC Arena on December 29 supporting The Coronas. We can't wait to finally play in Killarney for the first time!"

Killarney took pride of place in both the film and literary categories of this year’s ‘Hot Press’ Readers’ Poll, with local connections winning two of the main national awards.

The Best Film award went to Hamnet , starring Killarney actress Jessie Buckley. Buckley’s performance as Agnes Shakespeare in the feature adaptation has been a major success, and Hot Press readers have now voted it their favourite movie of the year.

Meanwhile, author Joseph O’Connor won the Best Book category with his latest novel, The Ghosts of Rome.

O’Connor has a strong historical link to the area, as his recent books are based on Killarney humanitarian Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty and his wartime exploits in Rome.

O’Connor has long championed the legacy of the Killarney native, whose memorial statue stands in the town centre.
