Motor club's cancer fundraiser drive
By Sean Moriarty
Members of Killarney and District Motor Club raised €1,300 for Kerry Cancer Support Group.
The funds were raised at one of the last autocross events organised by the club before COVID-19 restrictions took hold.
As a result of those restrictions, members were unable to present the proceeds until late last week when the event’s clerk of the course Martin Farrell and deputy clerk of the course Diarmuid Lynch were finally able to get to the Kerry Cancer Support Group Tralee headquarters.
“The idea behind the event was first raised by Diarmuid, his daughter depended on bus service and he presented an idea at a club meeting that was backed by the entire club,” Martin told the Killarney Advertiser. “Diarmuid has run a load of events for Kerry Cancer Support Group and this was another one of his ideas that worked and took off.”
Spectators attending the club’s autocross event paid an admission fee – usually entry is free – and the gate money was presented to Kerry Cancer Support Group last Friday.
