A new series of soccer summer camps, including a weekend-long festival will kick off next month in Milltown.

Run by Milltown Football Club’s Robin O’Day, the series of four-day summer camps will begin on July 1 and run every Monday through Thursday for July until the end of August.

Additionally, O’Day will run the O'Day Football Festival from July 19 to 21.

This weekend-long programme will cover advanced soccer skills and places are limited to 32 spaces per category (under 10, under 12 and under 14).

“This is a gathering for all young football enthusiasts to share in fun football competitions over the weekend and lots more fun,” said O’Day. “This will be an exciting and action-packed weekend of Football in Milltown all-weather pitch.”

Registration has just opened for the under-10, under-12 and under-14 competitions, but places are limited so register early before places are all gone.

The €100 Festival Entry Fee includes 1v1,2v2 4v4 and 8v8 competitions and lots of more fun throughout the weekend.

Registration and all festival and summer camp details are available at: https://odayfootball.com
Meanwhile, Milltown FC welcomed Republic Of Ireland Women's U17 Head Coach James Scott to the club last Tuesday.

“Having worked in both boys and girls football it was a great evening for our members to gain valuable knowledge from James' experience given he has worked from grassroot level right up to international level,” said O’Day.
Recently elected councillor Tommy Griffin also attended.

“We acknowledge the fantastic support and work he put in last year with our Sports Capital Equipment Grant Application. This will significantly help the young boys and girls in the club to develop even further.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce has expressed condolences following the death of Dick Henggeler, the well-known owner of The Rose Hotel in Tralee.

Mr Henggeler passed away peacefully at his home in Baltimore, USA surrounded by his Aghadoe-born wife Eibhlin (née Moriarty), their son Franz, and other family members.
Dick and Eibhlin purchased The Rose Hotel in 2015 in tribute to their late daughter Dorothy, who represented Washington DC in the 2011 Rose of Tralee Festival.
The Chamber said Mr Henggeler would be remembered for his warmth, good nature and positive approach, as well as for being a forward-thinking and knowledgeable businessman.
“He knew how to run a good hotel and that was and still is very obvious at The Rose Hotel, which is a great success story,” the Chamber said.
It added that continuity of ownership will remain in place, with Eibhlin, Franz, daughter-in-law Amber, and grandchildren Conrad and Rowan continuing to honour Dick’s legacy and vision for the hotel.
“Dick took enormous personal pride in Tralee and all of Kerry and he was always available to generously support any community initiative or endeavour undertaken in Killarney,” the Chamber said.
“He will be greatly missed by all that knew him but he leaves a wonderful legacy.”

He will repose at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney, on Friday (October 17), from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral will arrive at St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday morning at 10:00am for Requiem Mass at 10:30am, with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Cemetery. The Requiem Mass will be live streamed at https://www.churchservices.tv/killarneycathedral.
