The team behind the Killarney Micro Track will take to streets of Killarney this week in an effort to raise more funds to get the project completed.
The track, which is currently under construction near St Brendan’s College, needs €150,000 to complete the project.
Killarney Micro Track has joined forces with Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club (KVCVC) and will raffle a 30-year-old tractor later this year.
It is hoped that the raffle will raise close to one third of the shortfall. Proceeds from the raffle will be shared with ACT for Meningitis.
Tomorrow (Saturday), committee members will be at Daly’s SuperValu on Park Road selling raffle tickets for €10 each.
Next Friday night they will be on Main St in the town for the same reason.
“We will still need €150,000 once the construction is finished,” said project co-ordinator Jer Griffin. “We have broken this down into €50,000 units, so we are having a big push with raffle sales this week. Our next step is to produce a brochure to target private donations.”
The Micro Track, also known as the South and East Kerry Community Rural Track Project, will be located at St Brendan’s College, and will benefit up to 2,000 students from nearby schools, athletic clubs, Paralympic athletes, Special Olympics athletes and community groups.
