Mayor calls for reduction of speed limit
M
Mayor of Killarney John Sheahan has called for a reduction of the speed limit at a junction on the main Killarney to Killorglin road. Cllr Sheahan and local campaigners hope that reducing the speed limit from 100kph to 60kph will make the stretch of road near the Beaufort Bridge safer.
The closing date for submissions for the speed limit review date is August 17. Many within the Beaufort Community are strongly in favour of decreasing the limit, and a petition is currently being signed at the Beaufort Bridge shop.
Local business owner Michael O’Sullivan says that the area on the busy N22 encompasses two busy junctions, one towards Lahard and the other towards Beaufort village. Both junctions are within 100 metres of each other. High volumes of fast-moving traffic is making access to this area very difficult and dangerous, he added.
