Killarney’s Fitzgerald Stadium to host Munster football final
I
IT’S OFFICIAL! Munster GAA has confirmed that the Munster Senior Football Championship Final will take place in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.
The showpiece decider, between Kerry and Cork, will unfold at 2pm on Sunday, July 2.
This afternoon discussions were ongoing between the Cork and Kerry County Boards after the Cork County Board released a statement confirming that Pairc Ui Chaoimh will not host either of next month’s Munster senior finals. It had been hoped that the venue would be ready in time for the 2017 provincial deciders.
Cork County Board was informed this morning that the scheduled handover date of June 18 would not now be met, according to the statement. “There are still some commissioning works to be completed and these will be finished by July 7. The first game in the new stadium will take place in mid-July,” it added.
Ger Lane, Cork County chairman, said: “Clearly we are disappointed, but we want everything to be pristine before the stadium hosts its first major games.
“We want to be certain that all the expectations for this tremendous new facility will be fully met and we are satisfied that this will be the case by mid July.”
