Killarney welcomes its two newest Garda recruits
T
TWO new faces on the beat in Killarney have proved a welcome addition to the town. Garda Karen Sheehan and Garda James McCarthy joined the team at Killarney Garda Station in February. This is the first time in eight years that Killarney has been allocated new probationary gardaí from The Garda College in Templemore, Co Tipperary.
Sergeant Dermot O’Connell, Sergeant in Charge, Killarney Garda Station, extended a warm welcome to the new recruits. “On behalf of the station I would like to welcome them both. They will be a great asset to the team,” Sergeant O’Connell told Killarney Advertiser.
The new officers will get to hone a variety of policing skills in the town, added Sergeant O’Connell.
Garda Sheehan, from Doneraile, Co Cork, and Garda McCarthy, from Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, said they have always wanted to join An Garda Siochána. They graduated in Templemore on February 6 and were then posted to Killarney. “We are delighted to be here, Killarney is such a lovely town,” said Garda McCarthy.
Garda Sheehan added: “Everyone we have met has been so welcoming since we arrived in Killarney, it’s been fantastic.”
