Killarney to host European Amateur Golf Championship

Killarney Golf and Fishing Club will host the European Amateur Team Championship on July 8 -12.
This six-man team event features top amateur golfers representing their countries.
The par-72 Killeen course, which has previously hosted the Irish Open six times, will be the venue for Europe’s leading amateur teams next month.
Mark Kennelly, CEO of Golf Ireland, siad: "We are all looking forward to hosting these brilliant championships back in Ireland again in 2025."
The 2025 European Amateur Team Championship will see 16 qualified countries compete. The format includes two rounds of stroke play followed by three rounds of match play to decide the European champion.
The tournament has a history of attracting notable participants, including Rory McIlroy, and Shane Lowry.
This event was last held in Ireland in 1997 at Portmarnock, where Spain won.
For Killarney, 2025 will be the second time it has hosted the championship, 50 years after Scotland lifted the trophy there.
The Irish team will aim to use home advantage to end a 17-year wait for a gold medal, their last victory being in 2008 in Italy.
