MILAN FASHION WEEK was all the more enchanting this year thanks to a super-talented Killarney makeup artist. Kathryn O’Neill’s creative vision enhanced Gucci’s autumn/winter show in the Italian fashion capital. Kathryn was the only Irish-based artist on the elite Gucci team headed by superstar makeup artist Yadim.

She created otherworldly looks on a team of 75 female and 45 male models. “This was a huge show, the biggest and most exciting of Fashion Month,” Kathryn told Killarney Advertiser.

The show was titled The Alchemist’s Garden and Kathryn’s brief was to create makeup looks to evoke Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele’s theme of “a garden inhabited by signs, symbols, and archetypes invoking and recalling remote worlds”. “There was also only one Irish model, the divine Lorna Foran, who has graced the pages of British Vogue. She was one of my models at the show,” said Kathryn.

Gucci recently opened a new 377,000 square feet HQ in Milan. A former aeronautical factory built in 1915, it is now Planet Gucci, complete with a studio for Gucci’s resident graffiti artist, entertaining areas for clients, showrooms and 2,000 square feet of catwalk space. “The show took place there for the first time,” said Kathryn. “Also this was the first time Gucci combined the men's and women's show into one mega show.
