Killarney link to viral ‘Kerry Cop’ in Canada
A Toronto police officer who went viral for shouting "Up Kerry" to a Donegal woman on the streets of the Canadian city has strong Killarney connections.
Conor Holly, a serving officer with Toronto Police, caught the attention of Letterkenny native Clare O’Brien when she was stuck in traffic wearing her Donegal jersey shortly after her county’s GAA side booked a place in the All-Ireland final against Kerry.
Conor leaned in the car window and shouted “Up Kerry.”
The brief moment led to a friendly chat and even a tour invitation to his station. Clare later posted the video to Donegal Daily, where it quickly went viral.
It turns out the Toronto officer has roots deep in Kerry. His father is Canadian, but his mother is from Belfast. However, it is his paternal grandmother that ties him to Killarney.
“Conor is my wife Rita's first cousin’s son,” said local radio personality Dermot Moriarty. “Conor’s grandfather on his father’s side was Michael Holly from Ballylongford, and his grandmother was Teresa Daly Holly from Shronedraugh, Headford.”
