A Killarney woman is one of six people about to set off on an epic 600km cycle to raise money and awareness for suicide charity Pieta House.

Gillian Kissane will cycle from the most southerly tip of Ireland to the country’s most northly point, Mizen Head to Malin Head.

They’ll begin their journey tomorrow (Thursday), with Gillian and five of her work colleagues from Liberty Insurance in Dublin hoping to make Malin Head by Sunday evening.

Gillian, who is from Minish, has just returned from Spain where she spent just over a week walking the Camino.

She has been working as an actuary in Dublin for the last nine years. She is also the only lady in the group.

“I only stumbled upon the idea after my seventh Ring of Kerry Cycle in July,” Gillian told the Killarney Advertiser. “Without much time to train, I hope that my commute to work and the odd spinning class will be enough. All of the crew feel passionately about helping to raise funds for Pieta House.”

Their employer, Liberty Insurance is sponsoring their accommodation and they’re asking the public to support their challenge.
