Killarney gets a close shave for a good cause

F
FROM postmen to firefighters and from hurlers to footballers….a big-hearted troupe of Killarney folk proved keen to submit their locks to the scissors and razor on Friday.
And an appreciative crowd turned out to support them at Shave for Amy at the K-Town Bar which was held to generate funds to help Killarney youngster Amy O’Connor.
The event, which was staged in association with Kerry Fire & Rescue, An Post, Dr Crokes GAA Club, K-Town Bar, Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty and White Bridge Manor Residents, saw volunteers unveil a whole new look on the night by having their crowning glory or beards shaved.
Shave for Amy was organised to help Amy, nine, daughter of Brendan and Triona and sister to Cian, who is suffering from a serious illness and is travelling regularly to Dublin for treatment.
“The neighbours, friends, work and sporting colleagues want to help with the financial burden this can cause for the family,” said Martin O’Grady of Killarney Fire Service on behalf of the organisers.
Meanwhile a charity auction also entertained all present at the Beech Road venue. “We have also opened a Credit Union account if anyone wants to donate,” added Martin. The account name is Shave for Amy BIC KIROI E21 IBAN IE11KIRO99219370036236.
