Killarney club to take part in Ploughing Championships

By Sean Moriarty
Two members of Killarney Ploughing Association are set to represent the local club at the All-Ireland Ploughing Championships next week.
This year’s competition takes place in Rathinaska, County Laois from September 19 to 22.
A large Kerry team has qualified for the finals and two of them are members of the local club.
Shane Godley from Ballymac will compete in the Under 28 category on Tuesday. He last represented Kerry in the Under 21s in 2018 when he placed sixth in the national competition.
On Wednesday, Mike Brosnsn from Gortalea, will compete in the vintage class. He finished fifth in the scaled down All-Ireland finals last year. The 2021 event only featured ploughing events and the additional exhibitions and sideshows did not go ahead due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“It is great for Killarney Ploughing Association to have two competitors in the nationals,” chairman Thomas Warton said. “They will be up against the best of the best. They will face competitors from places like Wexford, who are big tillage farmers and who plough 100s of acres for tillage.”
