AN INNOVATIVE Kerry teen who developed a life-saving invention has just won a coveted national award. Killorglin Community College student Jack Nagle designed and created a device that automatically engages the handbrake in a tractor when the operator leaves the seat.
Today he was presented with the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Arena People’s choice Award for this Tractor Safe Lock, at the National Ploughing Championships.
The 16-year-old, who recently opened the South Kerry Ploughing Championships and Harvest Show in Fossa, has already won several other accolades for his invention and was one of 69 companies exhibiting at the Ploughing Championships.
In January he made his mark at the Young Scientists Exhibition with his life-saving device.
The People’s Choice Award is voted for by the general public via the Irish Farmers Journal website and app. The number of votes received totalled 3,000 with Tractor Safe Lock receiving over two-thirds (67%) of the overall vote.
