Kerry Stars horseback therapeutic sessions
The Kerry Stars Special Olympics Sports Club has introduced therapeutic horse-riding lessons for its athletes.
The new initiative began last Tuesday, marking the first time the club has offered this activity.
Thanks to the support of Orla Brosnan and her team at Clippity Clop, the therapeutic riding sessions are scheduled to take place every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm for one hour throughout May, June, and July.
According to Claire Doherty of Kerry Stars, the horse-riding offers more than just physical benefits. "Not only is it great for balance, confidence, and coordination, it is also a great social night for our athletes to mix and meet new friends," she said.
The club says that therapeutic riding can significantly improve an individual's physical and emotional well-being.
The interaction with horses can build confidence, enhance coordination, and improve balance in a fun and engaging way.
The weekly sessions also provide a valuable opportunity for the athletes to socialise and connect with each other.
