Kerry Airport is in line to get over €2m in additional funding under the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025.

The grant funding was announced yesterday (Tuesday) by Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton TD.

Under the grant scheme Kerry Airport will get €2.2m out of a total of €108m announced for all six Irish international airports.

This is the second round of funding, under the same scheme, offered to Kerry Airport, and means that 100 percent of all eligible costs at the airport for 2021 are now covered by grants.

"I fully recognise the devastating impact that COVID-19 has had on our regional airports. This is why I am delighted to announce that the operational funding of €15 million will cover 100% of the cost of all eligible expenditure at Shannon, Cork, Donegal, Knock and Kerry airports in 2021 under the scheme. This will go a long way towards enabling these airports to remain financially sustainable as they move beyond this current crisis and into 2022,” said Naughton.

This brings the total of funding offered to Kerry Airport in 2021 to a staggering €5.9m.

Kerry Airport already received €1.8m under a COVID-19 Supplementary Support Scheme and €4.1 Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025.

Yesterday's allocation is included in this second figure.

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
