Kenmare author to launch new book in Killarney

By Sean Moriarty
A new book by Kenmare-based author David King will be launched in Eason Killarney tomorrow (Saturday).
King’s first book is based on the true-life adventures of his mother Beryl in post-World War Two America and Britain.
‘American Bombshell’ tells the story of the life and times of a woman who lived in London, New York and Florida during some of the most turbulent and exciting times in world history.
King has been living in Kenmare since shortly after Brexit in 2016.
He always had ambitions to write a book on World War Two and when his mother passed away he was inspired to complete it.
“When my mother died, and as I cleared through her belongings, I began to recall some of the events of her life; her tough upbringing in an orphanage, her five or six marriages, and her meeting an American pilot during World War Two,” he said.
“The book took about a year to write, but I struggled to get a publisher with the early drafts. I left it for a few months, revised the manuscript one last time and sent it off. I heard nothing for several months and finally decided I was not meant to be a writer after all. I put the book away and forgot about it until I got a call from Poolbeg [Publishers] in 2022."
David will be signing books in Eason, Killarney from 11am.
