Johnny Buckley leaves Kerry squad
K
Kerry’s All-Ireland hopes were dealt a major blow this week as Johnny Buckley announced that he won’t be making himself available for selection for the upcoming championship. Buckley, a versatile player who can operate in midfield or in the half forward line, cited work commitments as the reason for his decision. He is the Chief Operations Manager with Kerry Coaches, a company he runs with his father, Mike. With a busy summer on the cards, the Dr Crokes man has opted to take a step back from the Kerry fold.
Last year’s captain has struggled with injury this season but he is certainly an influential player on his day and he will be sorely missed. Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice is said to have left the door open for Buckley should he wish to make his return in the future.
