It was certainly a case of the jewel in the crown for Kerry soccer kingpins Killarney Celtic when they clinched the prestigious Munster League Champions title with a great victory over fancied Limerick side Rathkeale.

And they added a little extra sparkle to their great success on Saturday when the players and management showed off their own piece of silverware when they visited Keane’s Jewellers in Killarney who sponsor the provincial competition.

Store manager Paul Trant and his staff were delighted to join in the celebrations and congratulate Celtic manager Brian Spillane and the club on their great run of success at a domestic, provincial and national level.

The Munster League Champions competition has been sponsored by Keane’s Jewellers since it first commenced in the 2011/2012 season and, in fact, Killarney Celtic were also the winners that year.

The only other clubs to win the cup on two occasions are Limerick side Janesboro and St Michael’s FC from Tipperary.

Brian Spillane, who also led Celtic to the league and cup double in Kerry last season, said it was a great honour to win the trophy as a player in 2012 and as manager eight years later.

“To go toe-to-toe with the finest teams in Munster is a dream come true,” said Brian, who thanked Paul Trant and his staff at Keane’s Jewellers for continuing to sponsor the competition and for promoting junior soccer in Munster.

The exhibition, which runs from March 10 to March 31, explores the foundational years of the political party within the county between 1926 and 1933.

The exhibition details how the party established itself in a county where Civil War divisions were particularly deep-seated. It covers the transition of local figures from revolutionary activities to parliamentary politics and the intense election battles of the late 1920s. Visitors will be able to view documents and archives that illustrate how the party built its organisation across South Kerry in its first decade.

As part of the event, local historian and author Dr. Owen O’Shea will give a public lecture at the library on Thursday, March 26, at 7:00 p.m. His talk will focus on the foundation of the party and the “bullets to ballots” transition in Kerry politics. The exhibition is free to attend and will be open during the library’s scheduled operating hours throughout the month of March.
The project is the result of extensive research funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. The grant was awarded under the Commemorations Bursary Scheme for 2025-2026 and managed by the Royal Irish Academy. This scheme supports local research that helps the public better understand the political and social evolution of Ireland following the Civil War.
