A total of €2,750 was raised in four hours by members of Killarney Fire and Rescue to help fund a fire engine for Ukraine.
A countywide initiative is underway by all Kerry-based firefighters. They hope to raise enough funds to buy a fire tender and deliver it to the war-torn country.
On Friday last they held a coffee and candle sale at the Gala Shop on Upper College St. The store is managed by Iryna Rudenko who is originally from the Sumy Oblast region of Ukraine.
“To raise that much money in a short time was phenomenal,” Killarney Fire Station Officer, Paudie Mangan, told the Killarney Advertiser.
“We would like to thank the people of Killarney for their generosity, many people made very large donations but did not want a candle or coffee in return.”
