Hamilton close to fourth title
L
LEWIS HAMILTON edges closer to a fourth F1 title after an unchallenged race win in last weekend’s US Grand Prix, in Austin, Texas. The Mercedes driver extends his lead to 66 points over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton reported after the race that he was surprised that Ferrari was unable to put up a challenge in the race.
Vettel led the championship for the first half of the season, but the Ferrari driver and team have handed the championship to Hamilton and Mercedes with the recent mechanical failings and seriously misjudged start line incident in Singapore.
With three races remaining Vettel has a mathematical chance of the championship but both Hamilton and Mercedes’ recent form would suggest different. On the other hand Hamilton could secure the title in this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City if he finishes in the top five with the Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to spare.
