Guests Enjoy Ladies Of Kenmare Evening
A
An evening tour of Killarney House sharing the stories of the women who brought the house to life over the centuries was given by historical guide Margaret O'Regan on Wednesday. Guests were invited to meet many characters from the ‘sublime to the outrageous’ from Gertrude Browne who hosted Queen Victoria to the notorious Lady Jersey. The Trial of Queen Caroline and the two wives of Lord Castlerosse, Doris Delevingne and Enid Lindeman were also discussed.
Guests also got to know Beatrice Grosvenor and the late Mary McShain and her only daughter Sr Pauline McShain who gave up a vast fortune for her vocation. It ended with a spectacular view of the gardens towards Lough Lein as the sun went down on the Macgillycuddy Reeks... What a gift the McShains left us all to enjoy, 'an oasis of peace and tranquility'… A secret garden inside the walls of Killarney town.
