Golf club adapts work practices to keep green looking great

Killarney Golf and Fishing Club has adopted new work practices in an effort to keep its course looking pristine while at the same time obeying social distancing rules.
The club’s facilities at O’Mahony’s Point and Killeen and its clubhouse and driving range remain closed until May 5 at the earliest.
However, essential service work continues on the green and staff have changed working practices to avoid any possible cross-contamination of the virus.
The club’s greenkeeping team of 10 has been split into two teams of five working over a split week.
Measures include one person to one machine when working on the course and machinery is washed down at the end of each day, breaks are staggered, and all work is done with social distancing measures in mind.
“As a golf club and business we are endeavouring to adapt to a hyper-dynamic situation given the COVID-19 pandemic and Government restrictions," Killarney Golf and Fishing Club’s marketing manager, Meg Dalton, told the Killarney Advertiser.
“We have the golf courses to maintain so our team is doing a stellar job of keeping things going and given the lovely spring weather there is a lot of mowing required to keep the courses in good condition and presenting well for when we open again. These are challenging times for everyone, our goal is to do our best for our golf club, the members and our employees. We will keep working as best we can and anticipate that eventually our beautiful and historic golf club will reopen to our members and visitors alike.”
