Garda crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Killarney

K
KILLARNEY Gardaí have spearheaded an operation to tackle antisocial behaviour. Following complaints from the community, officers embarked on an operation over the past month to identify individuals engaging in such behaviour and the detections also involved underage alcohol consumption and the littering of public areas around Killarney town.
Gardaí covertly monitored specific locations associated with this type of activity, including laneways and green areas. “Over 50 individuals were identified,” said Sergeant Dermot O’Connell of Killarney Gardaí. “Individuals under 18 years of age who were found consuming alcohol will now be processed through the Garda Juvenile Diversion Programme.”
Detections were also made relating to controlled drugs. “These individuals will be processed through the courts,” added Sergeant O’Connell.
Large groups consuming alcohol and littering in Killarney National Park were also dispersed. “Killarney Gardaí will continue with similar operations throughout the summer period to detect and deter such activity,” said Sergeant O’Connell.
