Further Sunday Trains for Kerry-Armagh Clash  available from 4pm Thursday

Fianna Fáil Deputy Michael Cahill and Councillor Tommy Cahill have today expressed their delight at the confirmation of an additional train service to and from Dublin this Sunday, ahead of the highly anticipated All-Ireland Quarter Final between Kerry and Armagh.

Following sustained engagement and pressure from both the Deputy and Councillor over the past number of days, Iarnród Éireann has now agreed to operate an additional return service – ensuring that more Kerry fans can travel to the capital and back to support their team on the big day.
“We’ve been flat out working with Iarnród Éireann in recent days to get these extra services in place,” said Deputy Michael Cahill. “The demand from fans has been extraordinary, and rightly so. Kerry supporters travel in their droves, and they deserve proper transport options.”
Councillor Tommy Cahill added: “We’ve been inundated with messages from constituents who couldn’t get a seat on the original services. We’re delighted that our calls have been heard, and even more delighted that this will allow more fans to be in Croke Park when Kerry send Armagh packing!” (he laughed).
Tickets for the additional Sunday morning train to Dublin and the evening return service will go live at 4pm today, Wednesday, June 26th, and fans are strongly encouraged to act fast.
“We’re urging everyone who wants to travel by train to log on to the Iarnród Éireann website as soon as the tickets go live, or to head to their local ticket office if they prefer,” Deputy Cahill said. “Seats will be snapped up quickly.”
The Cahills noted that the response from the public so far has been phenomenal, with Kerry supporters clearly answering the recent pleas from players David Clifford and Paul Geaney, who urged fans to get behind the team and travel to Dublin in numbers.
“This county is steeped in football tradition, and it’s no surprise that when the players asked for support, the people of Kerry listened,” said Councillor Cahill. “We’re proud to help make that journey possible for more supporters.”
This latest announcement builds on Deputy Cahill’s earlier success in securing extra capacity and a return service for supporters. The newly confirmed train is the result of persistent and coordinated efforts by both Michael and Tommy Cahill, ensuring that fan demand is matched with proper public transport provision.
“This is about ensuring Kerry fans can be there to back their team, and that our county is treated fairly when it comes to national events,” Deputy Cahill concluded. “We’ll continue to do all we can to represent the needs of our people, on and off the pitch.”

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Tourism, Michael Cahill TD, has highlighted Killarney’s suitability to host summit meetings of international Government Ministers during Ireland’s six-month European Presidency tenure in 2026.

Deputy Cahill believes Kerry’s available accommodation, food, and conference facilities are “second to none,” with Killarney as the central location.
“Visitors from every corner of the earth have been coming to Kerry for centuries now, to experience its beauty and serenity and have returned on many occasions because of the fabulous time they have enjoyed during their stay here,” said Deputy Cahill. “Where else would you want to bring the senior Government Ministers of all of our EU counterpart states, to experience Ireland, its customs and heritage?”
The Rossbeigh TD outlined various attractions available for visitors during downtime: “During their downtime, they can visit the Blaskets and Slea Head, Sceilg Mhichíl and the Ring of Kerry, Killarney’s Lakes, Gap of Dunloe, National Park and Sliabh Luachra, all of our glorious beaches from Ballybunion to Rossbeigh, Kells to Ventry, Whitestrand to Inch, Ballinskelligs to Cromane, Waterville to Derrynane.” He also cited Kerry’s golf courses, Listowel Writers Week, the Rose of Tralee, and Puck Fair as potential experiences.
Deputy Cahill confirmed he has raised this matter with An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin; An Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Harris; and Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne.
“If Killarney’s bid is successful in bringing the Heads of State to our county for meetings, conferences and functions, it will be a massive boost to the local economy in Killarney and also throughout the county,” added Cahill.”Iwill continue to push in the coming months for Killarney and Kerry to be included as bases for the rounds of meetings that are to take place from July 1 to December 312026.”
