Further funds for Glenflesk flood relief works

One of the worst flooding blackspots in Kerry - which fell short of funds during remedial works - is set to receive further funding of €54,000.
Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran TD is due to announce the funding today (Friday) to help finish ongoing flood relief works in the Glenflesk area.
The news will come as a huge relief to residents living in the Foiladown and Glenflesk areas who had been hit hard by flooding for many decades, including more recently in December 2014 when the levels of water rose to 900mm.
In November, councillors unanimously voted in favour of flood relief works at a Killarney Municipal District meeting.
TD Michael Healy-Rae this week welcomed the news of further funding to see the project completed.
“I want to warmly welcome this funding and I want to credit Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran,” Michael Healy-Rae told the Killarney Advertiser this week.
“A lot of ministers do a lot of talking but he is one of a few ministers doing good for Kerry.”
He added that he brought the minister to Kerry to look at a number of projects recently and he has helped with funding for most.
“I want to thank him for his interest,” he said.
