Take a closer look at your local library tomorrow (Saturday) as part of the first ever National Library Open Day.
Killarney Library have arranged a series of kiddies events including story-time at 10.30am followed by a treasure hunt at 11am. At 3pm, there will also be a guided tour of the library for adults. There will also be a free autism workshop ‘Get Autism Active’ - an adult event and requires prior booking due to the limited spaces - facilitated by lecturer and researcher Dr Susan Crawford, from 10am – 4pm.
The workshop will explore the basic skills of movement including running, throwing, catching, balance and how to observe, teach and assess Fundamental Movement Skill (FMS) in children and adults with ASDM. It will also show how improving FSM can help prevent long term health issues, improve verbal skills and increase opportunities for social engagement and independence for people with ASD.
“The talks have been very well attended at the library,” Hazel Norris at the Killarney Library told the Killarney Advertiser.
“We are delighted to see people engaging with these talks. We are thrilled to get such speakers with such high academic knowledge to come in to us. We encourage everyone to attend and it’s all free of charge.”
