Fossa included in Safe Routes to School Programme
By Sean Moriarty
Fossa National School is one of eight schools in Kerry accepted into the Safe Routes to School Programme.
Funding, announced this week by the Department of Transport, has allocated €5,000 to the school.
Local councillors have been calling for traffic management in the area for a long time.
Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley announced the Fossa funding on Wednesday.
“I welcome confirmation of this significant funding which will enhance and develop walking and cycling infrastructure across the county,” she said.
“The Safe Routes to School Programme has seen a myriad of imaginative and fun ways for our school communities to reinvent their active pathways to schools. This widening of the programme will have a transformative effect on the daily commute for these eight schools in Kerry.”
