The voluntary group are deployed by the National Ambulance Service in certain medical cases, such as chest pain, stroke, choking and cardiac arrest. They are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The unit are always looking for new recruits. Prior medical experience is not required as training is provided to all new members.
Thanks to generous sponsorship from Henry Bartlett and Richard Wilkins of Independent Irish Health Foods Ltd, they were able to purchase six new defibrillators (bringing their total up to 12) while also upgrading their digital radio communications system to the most up-to-date equipment available.
The group also receives generous support from Tricel and Killarney Plaza Hotel.
