First new naval vessel in 40 years launched in Valentia
FM Marine Services has successfully launched the ‘Fionnghuala’, a new naval vessel built for the Irish Naval Service Reserve. The vessel was launched this week at the company’s Valentia Island facility.
The launch of new ship marks a significant milestone for both FM Marine Services and the Irish Naval Service Reserve. It is the first vessel built in Ireland for the Irish Navy since the LE Eithne in 1984.
Designed to meet the specific needs of the Irish Naval Service Reserve, the ‘Fionnghuala’ is equipped with a range of features including a gantry for dive operations, a loading crane, and specialised communication equipment.
