Firies National School recently took part in the innovative WEAVE project, joining nine other primary schools in an exciting initiative supported by the Tralee Education Centre and Oide.

The project is designed to be learner-centric and cross-curricular, integrating the latest advancements in digital technologies into Irish education.

The WEAVE project aims to show how computing can enhance teaching and learning across various subjects.

Firies National School children looked at how 3D printing of houses could help with housing crisis in Killarney, how we can enhance soil quality to promote growth locally and in Killarney National Park, ways to reduce pollution in the Killarney lakes, how we can keep people safer on the Kerry roads and how we can harness electricity from natural sources.

The highlight of the WEAVE calendar was the showcase event held on June 18 at the Gleneagle Hotel.
This event brought together all ten participating schools, providing a platform for students to exhibit their project work. Attendees had the opportunity to explore various exhibitions, engage in discussions, and share their experiences in coding, LEGO robotics, computational thinking, and problem-solving. The day was filled with energy and excitement, celebrating the hard work and creativity of the students.
