€70k stolen from Wexford slot machines
A
An estimated €70,000, most of which was in coins, was stolen in a daring raid on an amusement arcade in Wexford, it has been revealed. The thieves also caused around €270,000 worth of criminal damage to the premises.
It is believed that the criminals disabled the alarm system by cutting wires at a nearby Eir phone site before breaking into Courtown Amusement Centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.
They then cracked open slot machines, collected the coins and escaped in a vehicle.
The gang also inadvertently damaged additional wires which meant local residents were left without internet access for three days.
