Published

Yesterday (Wednesday), personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) undertook searches of two premises, one located in Kerry and the other in Laois in the course of targeting the suspected criminal activities of a particular organised crime group, believed to be involved in drug trafficking at an international level.

In the course of the two searches, investigating members located and seized a quantity of cash estimated to total €4,000,000 (subject to completion of counting) along with three motor vehicles.

A male (46), was arrested on suspicion of having committed an organised crime related offence and is currently detained at Tralee Garda Station, pursuant to organised crime-related legislation.

"An Garda Síochána, through its Organised and Serious Crime (OSC) section continues to target criminal activity associated with organised crime groups with a particular focus on depriving those concerned of the proceeds of their criminal activity,” Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, who heads Organised and Serious Crime, said.

"The seizure yesterday by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) of cash, potentially to the extent of €4 million, bringing to €8 million the total amount of cash seized by GNDOCB so far this year, is another important achievement, reflecting our determination to dismantle particular organised crime groups.”

The Dóchas Drama Group will run a series of short plays at the Muckross Schoolhouse from December 5 to 7.

The group’s annual performance has been switched to the Muckross venue as its traditional base – the ballroom in the Killarney Avenue Hotel is being refurbished.

“If you are fed up with the incessant rain and constant bad news. Do you need a break? Are tired of listening to advice about your Christmas cake recipe? There is a perfect solution,” said the group’s Liz Ryan.

“We will present six short plays and some of the questions you may ask yourself are:

“Why is Jane suddenly so honest?

“What did happen on December 9. Will Tiffany be promoted? Will Mags eventually find love?

“Can lost love be re-kindled? What do grandparents get up to when they’re babysitting?

For answers to these questions and more, come along to Muckross Schoolhouse on December 5, 6 and 7.”
